Mitchell Goldhar holds a Bachelor of Political Science degree from York University and has been an adjunct professor with the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto for 15 years.

Mitchell Goldhar is a Canadian billionaire and businessman who founded real estate firm SmartCentres and has been in the real estate development business for over 30 years. Since opening the first new Canadian Walmart store in Barrie, Ontario in 1994, Goldhar has developed over 265 shopping centers across Canada. In May 2015, he sold most of SmartCentre’s assets to SmartREIT, for about $880 million in shares, cash and assumed debt. Goldhar, who chairs SmartREIT, also owns various developments across Canada through his private company Penguin Investments. This includes a stake, along with SmartREIT, in the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre, a 100-acre master planned development north of Toronto. Mitchell Goldhar is the Executive Chair of the Board since 2018 and Chief Executive Officer since 2021, as well as the owner of the Penguin Group of Companies.
