Jimmy Mui

Early life

Most of Jimmy Mui’s early life was focused on education. From 1988 to 1992, he attended the University of Waterloo, earning a Bachelor of Arts and Honours Chartered Accountancy Studies in a co-op program. He then pursued a Masters in Accounting at the University of Waterloo from 1992 to 1993.

Mui graduated from Western University in 2014. He later attended the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, and obtained his ICD.D designation by the Institute of Corporate Directors in 2021.

Career

Jimmy Mui has worked for several companies in various industries throughout his career.

After earning his CPA designation in 1994, he joined Corel Corporation in Ottawa as an Accounting Manager, working there for five years. He then became a Senior Consultant working a remote position for Epicor, a technology company in Irvine, California, from 1999 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, he worked as a Controller for Dell, then moved to Hydro Ottawa, holding the title of Director of Acquisitions until 2009.

After leaving Hydro Ottawa, Mui held the position of Executive Director and Corporate Support Directorate for the Ottawa Police Service for three years. He then served as the Chief Financial Officer of the Canadian Red Cross for a couple of years until eventually settling into the role of Chief Operating Officer and CFO of the Canadian Medical Association.

Outside of his executive roles, Mui has served on the board of directors and finance and audit committees for several health organizations. These organizations include the Ottawa Distress Centre, Diabetes Canada, The Learning Partnership, Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators, National Diabetes Trust, Kinvia, and the National Dental Examining Board of Canada.
