Jimmy Mui

Early life

Not much is publicly known about Jimmy Mui’s birth and early life. He is very well known for his professional life. He attended the University of Waterloo from 1988 to 1992 where he got his Bachelor of Arts and Honours Chartered Accountancy Studies in a Co-op Program.

He then went on to get his Masters of Accounting from the University of Waterloo from 1992 to 1993.

Mui graduated from Western University in 2014. He would later attend the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, a great program for many Certified Accountants who want to do more with their career and may not have joined the industry in the standard way. He got his ICD Designation from the Directors Education Program at the Institute of Corporate Directors.

He speaks Cantonese and English fluently and has a limited working proficiency in French.

Career

Jimmy Mui has extensive experience in a range of senior leadership positions across various industries. In addition to his role at the Canadian Medical Association as Executive Vice President, Corporate Services, CFO, and COO, he serves as a director on multiple boards, including Diabetes Canada and The Learning Partnership.

He holds the designation of Fellow from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, an ICD.D designation, and has earned a Master of Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo.

He joined the Canadian Medical Association in 2017 and serves as its Executive Vice President, Corporate Services, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer. He played a key role in the sale of MD Financial Management in 2018 and holds a variety of senior leadership roles across many diverse industries. He volunteers as a director on several boards and is recognized as a Fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, holds an ICD.D designation, and has a Master of Arts in Accounting degree from the University of Waterloo.

His volunteer work includes Board Director and Audit Committee Member of the Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region. He held this position for two years from January of 2012 to 2014. He is also a Board Director and Audit and Finance Committee Member for Diabetes Canada, from Jan 2018 to present. He’s also the Board Director and Chair, Finance and Audit Committee at The Learning Partnership since November 2020

His work experience began with Corel from 1993 to 1998, where he was an accounting manager. From there, he became a Senior Consultant for Epicor Software from 1998 to 2005. Then he became a Controller for Dell from 2005 to 2007. After his time at Dell, he moved to Hydro Ottawa as a Director of Acquisitions from 2007 to 2008.

Then he became Executive Director and Corporate Support Directorate for the Ottawa Police Service. He was here from 2008 to 2011. After this, he became a Board Member to the Distress Centre of Ottawa and Region from 2011 to 2013. Next, he was the Chief Financial Officer for the Canadian Red Cross from 2012 to 2014.

After leaving the Red Cross, he became Chief Financial Officer to Croix-Rouge Canadienne from 2014 to 2015. He was also a Board Member for The Learning Partnership from 2020 to 2022.

Jimmy Mui currently serves on the Board of the Canadian Medical Association, a membership organization established in 1867 with an estimated 136 employees. He is part of the C-suite executive team in the finance department, holding a C-level position.

Through his senior leadership roles across many diverse industries, including publicly traded companies, start-ups, municipal police, national charities, and even professional services, he has gained a great deal of experience across the industry that serves him well in his current role, as well as any volunteer work or advisory roles he may take on.
