Rabbi David Hofstedter is a Canadian real estate investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist based in Toronto. He founded Davpart Inc. in 1993 and has grown it into a diversified real estate investment and property management business with projects in Canada and the US. In 1997, he established Dirshu, a global organization that promotes Torah learning through structured study programs and exams. Dirshu has expanded its programs into Canada, the US, and Israel, helping thousands of participants worldwide. He has also written books on Talmudic commentary, which have been featured on Amazon.
David Hofstedter was born in Toronto, Canada. His parents moved to Canada after surviving the Holocaust. His father entered Toronto’s real estate industry and founded H&R Developments in 1952.
Hofstedter’s exposure to real estate started at a young age. He has spoken about his father’s work on major Toronto projects, including the development around Yonge and Eglinton. This experience gave him early knowledge in property development and long-term planning for large-scale urban projects.
His professional interests eventually led him to establish his own real estate firm while staying connected to his family’s business background.
In 1993, David Hofstedter founded Davpart Inc., a Toronto-based real estate investment and property management company. The business began with three industrial properties and later expanded into a portfolio of industrial, office, retail, residential, and mixed-use properties.
One of Davpart’s most notable projects is the redevelopment of the former Maclean Publishing and Maclean-Hunter property at 481 University Avenue in Toronto. The project became known as The United Building and incorporates both residential and retail space.
In 1997, Hofstedter founded Dirshu in Toronto. The organization began as a local initiative to help Jewish men establish structured routines for Torah learning, with programs that included regular study schedules, review, exams, and incentives for participants.
Dirshu later expanded beyond Toronto and Canada. Its programs have reached Jewish communities in multiple countries and have included organized study programs covering subjects such as Talmudic and Jewish law. Hofstedter continues to serve as president and remains involved in its educational programming.
Beyond business and philanthropy, Hofstedter is a public speaker and writer. He has authored several books on Talmudic commentary, all of which have been featured on Amazon.

David Hofstedter’s net worth is not publicly disclosed.
