Early life

Upon graduation in 1987, McInerney held various progressive roles prior to becoming Central Region Practice Leader at Mercer Investments. In 1998, he was promoted to National Practice Leader and in 2001, he became the President of Mercer Investment Consulting. In 2003, he was elevated to President, Mercer Global Investments — a position he held from 2003 to 2006. McInerney also served as the Managing Director of Americas Institutional at Russell Investments in Seattle from 2006 to 2009 and held a position as a co-CEO at BMO Global Asset Management U.S. in Chicago, from 2009 to 2016.
