G. Scott Paterson is a Toronto-based technology and media entrepreneur whose career has taken him from investment banking to internet television, financial software and artificial intelligence.
He has co-founded businesses including JumpTV, Symbility Solutions, QYOU Media and FutureVault, where he serves as executive chairman. Alongside his work with companies, Paterson chairs ComKids, the charity he co-founded to help young people gain access to computers and digital learning.
Paterson was born on January 11, 1964, in Sarnia, Ontario. His mother was a teacher at Lakeport High School.
His interest in investing began with an unusual birthday present: five shares of Abitibi Paper from his grandmother. Work started early, too. By nine, he was selling programs at Merrittville and Ransomville Speedways; at fifteen, he became an assistant track announcer.
He attended Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School before completing Grades 12 and 13 at Ridley College with bursary support.

Paterson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1985. He later completed executive education at Western and pursued further training in securities, corporate governance and entertainment law.
After graduating in 1985, Paterson began his career in retail brokerage at Dominion Securities Pitfield. He moved to Richardson Greenshields and later Midland Walwyn, where his work in investment banking increasingly focused on technology companies.
In 1995, he joined Yorkton Securities, a brokerage with a strong mining background. He helped shift its attention toward software, internet businesses, biotechnology, film and television. Paterson became chief executive officer in 1998 and led the firm through the late-1990s technology boom.
His industry roles have included chair of the Canadian Venture Exchange, vice-chair of the Toronto Stock Exchange and governor of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada.
Paterson co-founded JumpTV in 2005 and served as chairman and chief executive officer. The company delivered international television channels over the internet, including programming for viewers living outside their home countries.
JumpTV went public in 2006 with Morgan Stanley as lead underwriter. It combined with NeuLion in 2008, and Paterson became vice-chair. Endeavor acquired NeuLion in 2018. The business was part of the early development of television and sports distribution across internet-connected devices.
Paterson was an early investor in Lionsgate and served on its board from 1997 to 2018, including a long period as chair of the Audit and Risk Committee. In 2014, he co-founded QYOU Media, a company built around programming from digital creators.
He also co-founded Symbility Solutions in 2004 and served as its board chair. The company developed software for property insurance claims and was acquired by CoreLogic in 2018.
At FutureVault, Paterson’s work centres on a practical problem: important information is often spread across documents, inboxes and separate systems. The company’s digital vault platform gives financial institutions, advisors and clients a place to organize records and control access to them.
Its document-processing and AI tools are designed to help users find, interpret and work with the information in those records. Permissions remain part of that process, governing which documents a person or system can access.
Paterson’s more recent work includes FUTR, a consumer-focused venture developed around personal records and an AI agent. In a July 2026 interview, he described a system that could answer questions using documents in an individual’s own vault—for example, locating an insurance policy or checking a mortgage detail.
His stated vision emphasizes individual control over information and the choice to share it. Product plans, including proposed financial services and rewards features, should be distinguished from capabilities that are available to users.

Paterson’s personal net worth has not been publicly verified. His career includes investments, company ownership and board roles, but those activities do not provide enough information to calculate his assets and liabilities. The figures circulated by estimate-based websites should not be treated as confirmed valuations.
Paterson co-founded the organization now known as ComKids and serves as its chair. Previously associated with the Merry Go Round Children’s Foundation and the Kids, Cops & Computers program, the charity works to improve access to technology and digital education for young people facing financial barriers.
His support for education also includes bursaries at Ridley College and Western University. A gift to Western helped establish the G. Scott Paterson Wing at its medical school. He has served as a Ridley governor and supported the school’s fundraising campaigns.
Outside business, his supplied biography describes an interest in skiing, hockey, squash, tennis and time in Ontario’s lake country. He has also taken small acting roles in films, including A Dark Truth and Breakout.
Additional background comes from the supplied long-form biography and client-edited career materials. Updated September 2026.
