Suneel Gupta is an American entrepreneur, author, TV host, and public speaker known for his work in wellness, leadership, and innovation. He is the founder and CEO of Rise Labs, a digital health company acquired by One Medical, as well as the author of two books, Backable (2021) and Everyday Dharma (2023). Additionally, Suneel Gupta is a Visiting Scholar at Harvard Medical School, where he explores the combination of inner wellness and outer leadership. He also is the host of Business Class, a documentary series on Amazon Prime Video that covers the habits of high performers.

Early life

Born and raised in Novi, Michigan, Suneel Gupta is the son of Indian immigrants who were both engineers at Ford Motor Company. His mother, Damyanti Gupta, notably became the first female engineer at Ford with a graduate degree.

Suneel Gupta graduated from Novi High School and received his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn. He went on to earn a Juris Doctor degree and an MBA from Northwestern University, equipping him with essential skills that would later guide his multifaceted career.

Career

Suneel Gupta started his career at the global professional services company Accenture, before progressing to product development roles at Mozilla Labs and then Groupon, where he became that company’s first Vice President of Product Development.

In 2013 he launched Rise Labs, a wellness startup that provides nutrition coaching via mobile app. The company raised $4 million from investors, some of which included Google Ventures and Greylock Partners, and was eventually acquired by One Medical in 2016. Following the acquisition, Suneel Gupta remained CEO at Rise Labs and took on the role of Head of Mobile Business at One Medical.

Beyond his business career, Suneel Gupta is an Entrepreneur in Residence at Kleiner Perkins, a prominent American venture capital firm based in Silicon Valley. At Harvard Medical School, he’s a Visiting Scholar in the department of psychiatry. In 2018, Gupta ran for US Congress in Michigan’s 11th district, raising more than $1 million in the process and finishing third in the Democratic primary. He is also the host of the documentary series Business Class on Amazon Prime Video, which delves into the habits of high performers in different fields.
