Simply put, Steve Cadigan is an expert in people, talent, and workplace culture. He is the founder and CEO of Cadigan Talent Ventures, a firm deeply tied to Silicon Valley that helps leaders and companies around the world build talent strategies with strong foundations. Cadigan operates according to the firm belief that culture is a company’s biggest strength and he channels his work into helping businesses grow by improving leadership, managing change, and guiding them through big transitions like initial public offerings (IPOs).

Over the last 30 years, Steve has worked across the United States, Canada, and Asia within many different industries. He is likely best known for helping LinkedIn expand from a small company of 400 people to a global leader in the tech, employment, and social media spaces boasting more than 4,000 employees. These days, he has garnered newfound notoriety by making keynote speeches at top universities, advising fast-growing tech companies, and helping businesses of all types deal with the unique challenges of the modern workplace.

Early life

As a young man, Steve Cadigan earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. He then went on to receive a Master’s degree in Human Resources (HR) and Organizational Development from the University of San Francisco in California. Upon entering the workforce, Cadigan began his career in HR working for well-known companies like ESPRIT and Fireman’s Fund Insurance. Over time, he developed a passion for helping people and businesses work better together, which is what set him down the path to becoming a talent advisor, paving the way for him to find his calling as a global workplace strategist and thought leader.

Steve Cadigan’s international appointments began early in his career. Through various roles, he lived and worked in cosmopolitan cities like Singapore and Vancouver, giving him a diverse and measured view of present-day and emerging workplace trends. These early roles helped him learn how to manage change, assemble strong teams, and help companies stay competitive in fast-changing industries.

Career

Steve Cadigan’s career began taking off in earnest when he accepted the position of the Director of HR in Asia for Cisco in 2002. Over the course of his tenure at that company, he also led more than 50 mergers and acquisitions. Only a few years later, he moved on to PMC-Sierra, where he was given the role of Chief Human Resources Officer, then Electronic Arts, where he was named Vice President of Human Resources.

But Steve Cadigan’s biggest impact came when he joined LinkedIn, staying with them from 2009 to 2012. As Vice President of Talent, he helped the company grow rapidly, all the while acting as the force behind shaping a workplace culture so strong that Stanford University created an academic case study about it, using it as an example to teach business students. After guiding LinkedIn through its IPO in 2011, Cadigan stayed with the company for roughly one more year before starting his own firm, Cadigan Talent Ventures, in 2013. Since then, Cadigan has used what he has learned from his decades of HR experience to help other businesses thrive in the digital age.

Cadigan Talent Ventures specializes in future-of-work consulting and talent optimization, advising a slew of the world’s top companies like Google, Twitter, and Airbnb, and partnering with major firms like Andreessen Horowitz and McKinsey. Today, apart from managing his company, Steve Cadigan also teaches and speaks at institutions of higher learning, such as Stanford, as well as Nova School of Business, where he is a Professor of Practice, and Unicorn Factory Lisboa, where his title is Professor of Culture and Leadership in Hyper-Growth.

In 2021, Steve Cadigan added the title of author to his ever-expanding resume with the release of his debut book, Workquake: Embracing the Aftershocks of COVID-19 to Create a Better Model of Working. Written in response to the previously unimagined changes to workplace culture brought on by the global pandemic, Workquakechallenges the prevailing doom-and-gloom narrative surrounding automation and job displacement. Instead, it offers a forward-looking vision rooted in humanity and adaptability, advocating for a more authentic relationship between employers and workers built on trust, transparency, and mutual growth.
