Josh Koziebrocki

Josh Koziebrocki is a Canadian lawyer, and the founder and principal of Koziebrocki Law, a Toronto-based firm established in 2017. His practice is devoted to representing professionals who face regulatory or disciplinary challenges that put their license to practice at risk.

As a litigation lawyer with years of advocacy experience, Koziebrocki has appeared before a wide range of courts, professional Colleges, tribunals, and licensing bodies. He has also appeared regularly before several regulatory bodies and courts in Canada. Recognized for abilities as a public speaker, over the years, Josh Koziebrocki has addressed a wide variety of professional associations, and is specifically notable for his presentations pertaining to healthcare law.

Early life

Josh Koziebrocki attended the University of Toronto starting in 1997, and earned an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (B.A.) in 2001. He then went on to the University of Ottawa, where he studied law and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) in 2004.

Career

Upon completing his education and entering the workforce, Josh Koziebrocki began his legal career first as an articling student and then as an Associate in the Litigation Department of the law firm McCarthy Tetrault. He then joined the Province of Ontario’s Ministry of the Attorney General as an Assistant Crown Attorney, where he worked for two years. Josh then joined Lerners LLP, first as an Associate Lawyer in 2009, and later promoted to Partner in 2013.

During this time, Josh began volunteering with Jays Care, the charitable arm of the Toronto Blue Jays, a major league baseball team. He served as the founding Chair of that organization’s Young Professionals Committee from 2012 to 2015, helping to forward their efforts with underprivileged children across Canada.

In 2017, Josh decided to embrace his entrepreneurial instincts and create his own law firm. Koziebrocki Law made its debut in 2017, based in Toronto. The firm specializes in working with professionals, including doctors, dentists, pharmacists, accountants, psychologists, nurses, and massage therapists who find themselves in difficult and challenging situations involving their license to practice.

Since establishing the firm, Josh has guided a wide range of professionals through every stage of regulatory oversight, from initial complaints and investigations to full disciplinary hearings. His experience extends to acting as counsel in regulatory proceedings and in courts at all levels. Beyond representing individual clients, he also regularly advises corporations that employ regulated professionals, and he has served as independent counsel to discipline panels as well as amicus curiae in professional College proceedings. Adding to his list of qualifications, Josh Koziebrocki became a Certified Specialist in Health Law in 2021, as conferred by the Law Society of Ontario.

Josh Koziebrocki is also a highly sought-after public speaker, having delivered informational addresses to numerous professional and legal organizations over the course of his career. He is also a board member of the Toronto Lawyers Association.

Since founding Koziebrocki Law, both Josh as an individual legal professional and his firm on the whole have received multiple accolades and recognitions from the press and professional societies. Beginning in 2020, Josh has been featured several times in the annual editions of Best Lawyers in Canada. In 2021, he was recognized as a Lexpert-ranked lawyer in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory for his work defending healthcare professionals in medical negligence matters—a distinction he would receive again in ensuing years. He has also been included in Post City Magazine’s list of Toronto’s Top Lawyers. In 2023, his firm, Koziebrocki Law was proclaimed ‘One of Canada’s Best Law Firms’ by The Globe and Mail.
