Curt Steinhorst is the founder and CEO of Focuswise Inc., a firm that gives individuals and teams the tools needed to focus on objectives, create clarity, and embrace the concept of deep work, resulting in increased performance and a more productive workplace culture. Since 2021, he has also served as the Head of People and Culture at Venus Aerospace, a deep-tech aviation and aerospace company.
Best known in the business world as a global authority on organizational development and leadership, Steinhorst has harnessed his notoriety to become an in-demand public speaker. He is also the author of two books; 2017’s Can I Have Your Attention?: Inspiring Better Work Habits, Focusing Your Team, and Getting Stuff Done in the Constantly Connected Workplace, and 2021’s My Pandemic Journal: Pandemic Reflection Questions & Pandemic Journal Prompts.
Diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) at a young age, Curt Steinhorst would struggle with maintaining focus on everyday tasks throughout his youth. The lessons he learned in living with and overcoming his ADD would endure into adulthood, ultimately guiding his career trajectory. He attended Texas A&M University between the years of 2001 and 2005, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in speech communication. After graduating, Steinhorst took a six-month role as an International Development Intern with The Village Church.
Midway through 2006, Curt Steinhorst accepted a position as a Speaker Consultant with the International Speakers Bureau, a role he would keep until the summer of 2010. During his four-plus-year run with the bureau, he would hone his public speaking and presentation skills. From there, he joined BK Enterprises as Vice President of Business Development. Steinhorst worked there for a year before embracing his entrepreneurial instincts and founding his first company, The Promentum Group, in 2011. The company was a full-service public speaking and communications agency, presaging his future success in that field. The next year, Steinhorst was hired as Certified Speaker for The Center for Generational Kinetics to make speeches on that organization’s behalf about their research into the behaviours and attitudes of Generation Y. He would perform this role on and off until 2021.
Curt Steinhorst founded Focuswise Inc. in 2016. The Dallas, Texas-based company specializes in helping individuals and organizations combat distraction by using cutting-edge science on how the human brain works as a blueprint to develop focus-inducing techniques, exercises, and courses. The research-backed programs developed by Focuswise have helped founders, CEOs, television personalities, and professional athletes, among many others, to radically improve their concentration and productivity.
In an effort to share his expertise with a wider audience, Steinhorst wrote his first book, Can I Have Your Attention?: Inspiring Better Work Habits, Focusing Your Team, and Getting Stuff Done in the Constantly Connected Workplace in 2017. The book quickly became a go-to guide among business executives interested in inspiring change in their colleagues, co-workers, and subordinates.
Around this time, Curt Steinhorst’s cache as a public speaker increased enormously, and he began booking more than 70 professional speaking engagements each year. Known for his unique insights and entertaining delivery, he has delivered over 500 keynotes for organizations such as AT&T, Deloitte, JPMorgan Chase, and the United States Naval Academy. His presentations tackle a variety of subjects, but the common themes underpinning each of them are attention management, productivity, leadership, and impact of technology on human behaviour.
Beginning in 2021, Curt Steinhorst has also served as the Head of People & Culture at Venus Aerospace, a deep-tech company currently developing a spaceplane that will enable one-hour global travel. At Venus Aerospace, Steinhorst applies his extensive experience to encourage a focused and productive workplace culture, emphasizing the importance of paying wholehearted attention to each and every task.
Also in 2021, he wrote his second book, My Pandemic Journal: Pandemic Reflection Questions & Pandemic Journal Prompts, which chronicles a series of personal and professional insights made by Steinhorst during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Curt Steinhorst is also a regular contributor to Forbes on topics of leadership strategy.
