Early life

Not much is known about Puri’s birth and early life.

Puri has a BBA from York University’s Schulich School of Business and a Bachelor of Business Administration, with honors, in Accounting and Finance, from the same school. Immediately after graduation, he entered the workforce in the finance and investing industry.

Career

Sunny is the Principal and Portfolio Manager at Anson Funds. Anson Funds is a privately held alternative asset management company that was founded in 2003. It has offices in Toronto, Canada, and Dallas, Texas. Anson Funds invests primarily in publicly-traded equity and debt securities on a global scale. The company prioritizes net of fees performance, with low volatility returns, and low correlations to broad market indexes.

Anson Funds was mentioned as one of the best in ZeroHedge’s: “Best and Worst Hedge Funds of 2022.”

He has been with Anson Funds since April 2013 and is involved in all aspects of the investment process. Sunny is also a Chartered Accountant (CPA CA) in Canada.

After college, he began his career as a staff accountant for Small Business Accounting Professionals, leaving that job in April of 2006 after nearly three years.

In 2007 Sunny graduated from the Schulich School of Business with honors for Accounting & Finance before earning his Chartered Accountant (CPA CA) distinction in Canada.

Sunny has impressive global credentials, having worked as both a Senior Associate at Pricewaterhouse Coopers and an associate of RBC Capital Markets in Toronto, Ontario, and Sydney.

In an interview with World Financial Review, Puri shared some of his views on how entrepreneurs can best improve their business.

“Modern entrepreneurs can’t afford to ignore technology breakthroughs,” he said in the interview. And it’s no longer a matter of using the best technology at the time. You have to keep up with emerging technologies and embrace them before your competitors.”

Puri elaborated more deeply about finding success as an entrepreneur, highlighting the importance of communication, implementation, planning, technology, and delegation.

“At some point, you simply can’t do it all on your own,” Puri said. “This is a make-or-break moment for many entrepreneurs. either you learn to delegate or you get overwhelmed and eventually end up short staffed.”

Before joining the team at Anson Funds, Puri was an associate at RBC Capital Markets in Toronto, Canada and Sydney, Australia, between the years of 2010 and 2012.

Sunny speaks English and Hindi as native languages, Urdu at professional proficiency, and some Punjabi at limited working proficiency.

He was a board member and Treasurer for A Child’s Voice Foundation from Nov 2011 to August 2017.
