Sinead Bovell is a Canadian futurist, tech educator, entrepreneur, fashion model, and public speaker who is best known for making complex and abstract ideas about the future of technology easy for a general audience to understand. She is the founder of WAYE (Weekly Advice for Young Entrepreneurs), a platform that helps young people learn about digital tools and prepare for the jobs of tomorrow. In the past, Bovell has been called “The AI Educator for Non-Nerds” by Vogue because of how well she explains topics like artificial intelligence, blockchain, and online safety. She’s spoken at global events, appeared on major news networks, and worked with the United Nations to advocate for young people’s interests to be protected and voices to be heard when it comes to emergent technology and how it’s used to shape the future of society.
Sinead Bovell was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area in Canada to parents of Irish and Guyanese descent. Growing up, she believed her career options were limited to fields like business, medicine, or law. Accordingly, she earned a degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, specializing in business and chemistry. She later completed an MBA in strategic management at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.
In her mid-20s, Bovell was scouted at a business event and unexpectedly began a successful modeling career, appearing in top magazines like Elle and Chatelaine. Although modeling was a new experience for her, she used her business background to stand out in the fashion arena by curating her own blog offering advice to new and aspiring models. Eventually, she found a way to blend her love of technology, business, and communications into one purpose: helping others, specifically young people, navigate their way through an uncertain and ever-changing future. She would go on to earn a certification in AI Ethics from MIT Professional Education, signifying her expertise in the moral implications of artificial intelligence, a field of study for which she is now widely recognized as an expert.
Sinead Bovell started her career as a management consultant at A.T. Kearney, working with top companies to solve big business problems. During the course of her work, however, she felt called to do something different—something with more of a visceral social impact.
After moving to New York City and working as a model, she took the entrepreneurial plunge and founded WAYE in 2018. Her ultimate goal for the organization was to help young people, especially those in underrepresented groups, learn about new and emerging technologies and how to use them to their advantage. WAYE quickly grew, hosting monthly talks and events, called WAYE Talks, that brought together various stakeholders in society, including students, entrepreneurs, and even artists, among others. Several videos of these talks went viral, and soon Bovell was asked to speak to audiences around the world—everywhere from the United Nations to privately organized technology conferences—about the future of work, ethics in AI, and how to build a fair and just digital world. Through WAYE, Sinead Bovell has educated over 300,000 young people, specifically targeting new entrepreneurs.
Over the course of her career, Sinead Bovell has spoken as an authority on AI on CNN, NBC, and CNBC, and has been featured in Vogue, Wired, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and several other respected publications and notable media outlets.
Sinead Bovell’s net worth is not currently public information.
