Early life

Raised in Toronto, Ontario in Canada, as the child of Sikh Punjabi immigrants, Ritu Bhasin experienced bullying based on her race, culture, heritage when she was young. These unfortunate incidents caused her to have feelings of self-doubt, but they did ultimately have a silver lining, as they became the impetus for her to develop her life’s work—advocating for authenticity and belonging writ large.

Career

Ritu Bhasin is a thought leader and empowerment coach dedicated to forwarding the causes of authenticity, inclusion, and leadership development. After earning a law degree from the University of Windsor and an M.B.A. from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, she began her career as a civil litigator. She then went on to become the Director of Legal Talent and Inclusion at Stikeman Elliott LLP where she spearheaded diversity and inclusion initiatives in the legal field.

In 2010, Ritu created Bhasin Consulting Inc. (BCI), a consulting firm that specializes in diversity and inclusion, cultural competence, and authentic leadership. Through her role at BCI, as well as her social media platforms and speaking engagements, she has worked with hundreds of multinational organizations, from Fortune 500 companies and nonprofits to government agencies, to create inclusive, equitable work environments. She is certified as a cultural competence coach and, with much of her research being based on neuroscience, she is also a certified neurostrategies coach. Within consulting circles, her methodologies are well-known for integrating neuroscience findings to address DEI challenges and promote authentic leadership.

Ritu is also a highly sought-after public speaker who has delivered presentations across multiple continents. She has keynoted and led workshops in North America, Europe, and South Asia, speaking to audiences numbering in the thousands on the subjects of authentic leadership, the neuroscience of inclusion, anti-racism, and how to foster a culture of belonging. With her vibrant and relatable speaking style, Ritu is regularly featured as a headliner in the leadership conference circuit, delivering her inspiring message at corporate events, universities, conventions, and workshops around the globe. She also regularly appears on television and radio shows to share her professional insights.

She is also the author of two nonfiction books. Her first effort, The Authenticity Principle, published in 2017, peaked at #23 on Amazon’s best-seller list and was credited by critics for bringing a forceful message advocating acceptance in the workplace. Her second book, We’ve Got This: Unlocking the Beauty of Belonging, published in 2023, further explores these important ideas. The book provides practical frameworks to follow and chronicles real-life stories to guide readers in healing, thriving, and standing in their power amidst adversity.
