G. Scott Paterson is a technology and media venture capitalist based in Toronto, Ontario. He is known for transforming traditional investment firms into leading tech-focused companies. He co-founded and managed numerous high-growth businesses, including FutureVault, Symbility Solutions, JumpTV/Neulion, and QYOU Media, and has held board positions at Lionsgate Entertainment and several public and private ventures. Paterson is known for his financial knowledge, innovative leadership, charitable initiatives, and contributions to digital media and fintech.
Gordon Scott Paterson was born on January 11, 1964, in Sarnia, Ontario. He was raised by a single mother who worked as a teacher at Lakeport High School. He found an interest in the stock market at a young age when his grandmother bought him five shares of Abitibi Paper instead of a birthday present. By age nine, he was selling programs at Merrittville and Ransomville Speedways and later became an Assistant Track Announcer at fifteen.
Paterson went to Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School before completing grades 12 and 13 at Ridley College with bursary support. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Western Ontario in 1985 and later completed the university’s Executive Programs in 1995. He also completed the Canadian Securities Course (1984), the Canadian Securities Industry Officers and Directors designations (1991), U.S. Series 7 and 24 licenses (1996), an ICD.d designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors at Rotman School of Management (2009), and a Certificate in Entertainment Law at Osgoode Hall, York University (2014).
After university, Paterson started in retail brokerage at Dominion Securities Pitfield, earning a reputation as a top broker and “cold-call cowboy.” He moved to Richardson Greenshields in 1987, then became a senior investment banker at Midland Walwyn Inc., where he earned the nickname “IPO King.”
In 1995, he joined Yorkton Securities, a small mining brokerage, and helped pivot it into technology, internet, film, TV, and biotech. As Yorkton’s CEO from 1998 to 2001, he grew the firm’s revenue to $244 million with a $56 million pre-tax profit, establishing its prominence during the tech boom. He later co-founded Symbility Solutions, leading it through a successful acquisition by CoreLogic, and JumpTV/NeuLion, which executed a US$71 million IPO.
Paterson co-founded FutureVault, a secure digital vault for documents, and chairs QYOU Media. He is a board member for Lionsgate Entertainment Canada. Beyond finance, Paterson has appeared in small acting roles in films like A Dark Truth (2012) and Ice Girls (2016).
Paterson was an early investor in Lionsgate Entertainment and still serves as a board member and Chairman of the audit committee. His board work has extended to public and private companies in media, data analytics, fintech, and insurance technology. He was also previously the Chairman of Engagement Labs, a data and analytics firm focused on measuring social media engagement through online and offline channels.
At Symbility Solutions, Paterson managed long-term growth before the company was sold to CoreLogic for roughly $162 million, marking one of Canada’s most notable insurance tech exits. His work with JumpTV, later NeuLion, helped position the company as a global digital streaming provider for major sports leagues, culminating in a successful public offering and merger.
Paterson is also the Co-founder and Chairman of QYOU Media Inc., a company listed on the TSX Venture Exchange that produces and distributes content targeting Gen Z and millennial audiences in India through its flagship brand, The Q India.
Through FutureVault, Paterson focuses on secure digital infrastructure, working with compliance, cybersecurity, and document intelligence for financial institutions and professional services firms.

Various modelled estimates place his total net worth at around US$24 million, though the exact number is not publicly disclosed. Considering his significant roles in high-growth companies, past IPOs, and other ventures, it is likely that his overall wealth falls within the tens of millions, reflecting both his public and private financial accomplishments.
