Terry Hui

Terry Hui is the President and CEO of Concord Pacific‎ Developments Inc., Canada’s largest community builder. Hui has led Concord Pacific’s growth over three decades with signature developments across Canada. He has expanded the company’s business interests into telecommunications, software, and green energy.

Early life

Terry Hui grew up in Hong Kong. He moved to California to finish high school, then attended the University of California at Berkeley, where he received a BA in Physics in 1983. He graduated from Santa Clara University with a Masters in Electrical Engineering. He moved to Vancouver in 1985.

Career

After graduating, Hui was interested in developing a software company. In the meantime, he worked for a family development company, building projects such as Cambridge Gardens near City Square in Vancouver. “I did everything. I even patched concrete,” Hui says of his early years.

After family friend Li Ka-Shing successfully bid for the former Expo Lands, he sold a controlling interest in the new company, Concord Pacific, to the Hui family, which was already a minority partner. In 1992, at age 29, Terry Hui became CEO of Concord Pacific.

Concord Pacific’s flagship project on the northern shore of Vancouver’s False Creek is the largest residential/commercial development currently being built in Canada. The development includes more than 10,000 homes, multi-use parks, community infrastructure, three kilometres of seawall, daycares, school sites, and retail/commercial services. The project is considered a model of urban planning and serves as inspiration for planners across the globe.

In 1997, Hui and Concord Pacific began developing Concord CityPlace in Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario. The 45-acre development includes 30 residential towers with over 18,000 residents, 120,000sf of retail, an 8-acre park, a library, schools, and a community centre.

Hui has created developments in ten Canadian cities with expansions to the U.S. and U.K., with developments in Seattle, Central London, and London’s business district in progress. He has widened Concord Pacific’s business ventures to include green energy, telecommunications, software, and real estate investment management. Hui is also an influential figure in venture capital investments.

Under Hui’s leadership, Concord Pacific has accomplished several feats of innovation across different industries: establishing Canada’s fastest internet through the first fiber community; building North America’s first, and currently the world’s largest, full EV quick-charge parkade in a high-rise; and pioneering BioSpace systems in North America for healthier living environments. Hui has developed extensive solar, wind, and hydroelectric projects with Concord Pacific, demonstrating his dedication to sustainability.

His passions include cycling, skiing, and competitive sailing. Concord Pacific recently sponsored the Canadian team at the first-ever Women’s Americas Cup in Barcelona. Hui is a board member of the Quantum Gravity Society, promoting fundamental research in areas connected with quantum mechanics and gravity in an attempt to find a unified theory of the two.
