Guy Cormier is a President and Chief Executive Officer of The Desjardins Group, a Canadian financial services cooperative and the largest federation of credit unions in North America. Cormier received both a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and an MBA from HEC Montréal.

Career

Cormier began working at Desjardins as a manager in 1992, a position he held for nine years. In 2002, he was promoted to Chief Executive Officer and General Manager. In June 2009, he became Vice President of the Cooperative Network Finance and in April 2012 he was appointed Senior Vice President of the Cooperative Network. In September 2013, Cormier was promoted to First Vice President/Senior Vice President of Desjardins, leading to his current position as President and Chief Executive Officer of the firm since April 2016.

Cormier is known for promoting gender parity in corporate leadership. Because of the appointments he has made to Desjardins’ Management Committee, the 10-member board is composed of five women. At the 2019 Desjardins Group Annual General meeting, Cormier called for a series of workshops to address the importance of diversity in the workplace. That same year, Desjardins earned a Platinum-level Parity Certification from Women in Governance for Governance and Vision. Shortly after Cormier became President, he created Desjardins Youth Advisory Committee and since, the representation of women in the organization has increased from 24.5% to 34% for Senior Managers across the organization. His goal for the 204 employees, is to have 50% representation across all categories. Cormier has made it a priority as leader of Desjardins, to instill a strong member and client-focused corporate culture in the organization.
