Early life

Amer Rasul earned a Bachelor of Commerce and Economics from the University of Toronto, and later a Master of Business Administration from the university’s Joseph L. Rotman School of Management. He also achieved accreditation as a
Certified Information Systems Auditor (from the Information Systems Audit and Control Association) and as a Chartered Accountant (from the Ontario Institute of Chartered Accountants.)

He has assumed roles as a managing partner and director, as well as senior managerial positions in market sectors ranging from retail to entertainment and financial services. From 2009 to 2023 Amer Rasul worked for Altus Group Ltd., first as Director of Financial Planning and Analysis, then Vice President for Financial Planning and Analysis and later as Executive Vice President. Amer Rasul defined and led the execution of all aspects of the Financial Planning and Analysis function for this industry-leading global software and real estate consulting service company with revenues of $735M and 2,700 employees. He started with a decentralized function that had no processes, systems, or team, and built a high-performing culture that supported and partnered for business unit and company performance reporting and planning.

From 2004 to 2009 he served as Managing Partner for Gravitas Consultants. The year before he was Director of Financial Analysis for Sun Life Financial, a leading international financial services organization that provides a diverse range of protection and wealth management products and services to individuals and corporate customers. It has operations in key markets worldwide, including Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Japan, India, China, and Bermuda.

From 2001 to 2003 Amer Rasul was Senior Manager for Planning and Analysis at Indigo Books & Music Inc., which operates 270 stores under various banners, including Chapters, Indigo, and Coles. In addition, the company operates chapters.indigo.ca, a leading e-commerce retailer. Total consolidated revenues were $760M.

From 1996 to 2001 he was Director of Finance and Director of Internal Audit at IMAX Corporation, a global entertainment company and the world leader and pioneer of large format film technology. Total consolidated revenues were $204M.

From 1994 to 1996 he was Manager for Reporting and Analysis and Senior Internal Auditor at National Trust, which at the time was one of Canada’s largest independent trust companies with corporate assets of $15.1B and assets under administration of $6.7B. The company is involved in retail banking, personal trust, and investment management.

From 1993 to 1994 Amer Rasul was Senior Operational Auditor at T. Eaton Company; and from 1991 to 1993 was Senior Auditor at KPMG.
